THE STORY OF S.KHONKAEN

THE BEGINNING

S. Khonkaen Foods was founded in 1984 by Charoen Rujirasopon, with more than 10 years of his expertise in food industry and a capital of 300,000 THB. He noticed a number of Bangkokians loved shredded pork, crispy pork, and Chinese sausage. So, whenever visiting Khon Kaen province, he would buy these products to resell in Bangkok. This is how “S. Khonkaen Foods” got its brand name, meaning “the products from Khon Kaen province.” Later, Charoen set up a factory to enhance the product’s quality and logistic efficiency. Modern machines and advanced technology were brought into the factory to meet international food standards, yet the original deliciousness has never been changed since the first day S. Khonkaen Foods was established.

A PUBLIC COMPANY

Within eight years, S. Khonkaen Foods had achieved great success and profits. As a result, the management board decided to take a further step, registering the company as S. Khonkaen food industry public company limited in 1994.

PIG FARMING

One of the keys to business success is effectively managing production costs. Due to the volatility of raw material prices, particularly pork meat, the company expanded its operations to include farming and livestock. As a result, the first pig farm was established in 1995.

LAUNCHING SNACK PRODUCTS

Traditional foods were becoming less popular and gradually disappearing from the market as a result of a shift in consumer behavior. By transforming traditional foods into snacks, S. Khonkaen Foods, the market leader in traditional food producers, elevated the market and wrote a new chapter in the Thai food industry’s history. At that time, the snack market was ten times bigger than that of traditional foods. Therefore, in 2004, “Entree,” a delicious crispy pork brand, was launched.

INTERNATIONAL DEBUT

The international restriction against Thai pork products has taken away the business opportunity. Only three countries allow the imports: Hong Kong, Singapore, and Japan. To tackle this challenge, S. Khonkaen Foods established its first factory in Poland in 2007. Today, our products are available in many European countries.

EXPANSION TO READY MEAL BUSINESS

S. Khonkaen Foods is the market leader in traditional Thai food products such as fermented sausage, Vietnamese sausage, and Thai sausage. Apart from that, our processed food products are also popular: fish balls, shrimp balls, including Entree – our famous pork snack brand. In order to become the world’s leading Thai food manufacturer, the company established its first factory in Poland in 2007 to supply the European market. Later, in 2009, the company purchased a ready-meal company to meet the needs of the modern lifestyle.

EXPANSION TO RESTAURANT BUSINESS

S. Khonkaen Foods opened quick service restaurants in 2010 to increase distribution channels as well as generate more revenues. In 2009–2010, there was a corporate restructuring that resulted in the withdrawal of shares from companies that did not contribute to the main business of S. Khonkaen Foods. This enabled the company to remain focused on its core business. In addition, the company changed its name to “S. Khonkaen Foods Public Company Limited.”
